Greek Waters Pilot is the definitive cruising guide to the coasts
and islands of Greece, covering the entire area from the Ionian
Islands to the Aegean, Rhodes and Crete and includes details of
over 450 harbours and anchorages in a single volume. Greek Waters
Pilot has been painstakingly compiled from Rod and Lucinda
Heikell's own survey work and exploration over four decades, as
well as first-hand information from their network of contributors.
The organisation of so much detail within the confines of a single
volume is impressive. This, the fourteenth edition, marks the
fortieth anniversary of the first edition of this celebrated
cruising guide. It has once again been thoroughly updated to
reflect developments and changes across the whole region. Enriched
with fascinating historical, mythological and gastronomic
information, Greek Waters Pilot is an incomparable resource and
companion for anyone planning to spend time in these endlessly
enticing waters.
Fully revised for its third edition, the Oxford Handbook of
Expedition and Wilderness Medicine continues to be the essential
resource for all expedition medics and well-informed travellers, as
well as nurses, paramedics, medical students, and other expedition
members travelling in remote, wilderness areas of the world. Now
containing more guidance about caving medicine, the third edition
includes revised and additional illustrations and essential maps of
the spread of diseases. Clear and concise, readers can rely on this
handbook to provide the key knowledge and practical advice they
need. It enables efficient preparation and planning before the
journey, advises on camp logistics, risk management, and medical
problems during the expedition, as well as highlighting rare but
important risks to those visiting remote areas. Focusing on
preventative measures, it also contains chapters dealing with
crisis management, emergency care, and evacuation from challenging
environments, with guidance about the obligations of a clinician
joining an expedition, ethical approaches to such work, and
medicine in various extreme environments. This edition will give
you the confidence and skills you need to travel to any extreme or
remote environment. Incorporating the combined knowledge and
experience of a team of experienced clinicians and expeditioners,
this is a practical, easy-to-use guide to all aspects of expedition
and wilderness medicine.
Since J W Norie published the first edition of his Complete Set of
Nautical Tables and Epitome of Practical Navigation in 1803, many
changes to the tables have been necessary in both content and
presentation. New tables have been included, obsolete ones deleted
to conform with changing techniques of navigation, with the aim of
improving the accuracy of the calculated position and reducing the
tedium of the calculation. Since the commissioning of the Global
Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), its proven accuracy and
reliability in all weather conditions have resulted in confidence
and almost unquestioning dependence on its ability to provide a
vessel’s position, course and speed. Its use is widespread but
the marine environment is a hostile one and failure of electronic
equipment or of the system itself is a possibility. No prudent
seafarer would proceed on an ocean passage without a reliable
navigational back-up. The Explanation is in the form of a detailed
step-by-step description, by means of worked examples, of the
different methods of performing navigational calculations using a
scientific calculator and/or the tables. A number of esteemed
editors have worked on Nories’ Nautical Tables over the years and
this edition includes new contributions from François Hugo. This
edition now presents formulae in an appropriate format for direct
entry to a scientific calculator. Because the possibility of
navigation without even an appropriate calculator exists, the
logarithms have been retained. • All the tables required for
coastal and deep sea navigation are included • A simple uniform
method of interpolation for all the trigonometrical tables is used
• Certain tables and data are also included which are not readily
available on board ship or are only used in the examination room.
A Different View of Curriculum and Assessment links a theoretical
pedagogical model with a sympathetic practical model of curriculum
and assessment difference for those with PMLD, CLD and SLD. Split
into two parts, this accessible resource combines theoretical
explanations with first-hand accounts of how this works in
educational establishments, through the analysis of evidence-based
practice carried out in a number of English special (specialist)
schools. The expert authors challenge the notion that a national,
or common core standards, curriculum, however expertly
differentiated, is fit-for-purpose for the PMLD, CLD and SLD
populations in any country. A Different View offers cogent and
reasoned arguments for considering that irrespective of age, such
learners learn differently to their neuro-typical, conventionally
developing peers. If they learn differently, this book shows how we
should be teaching them differently. Reflecting the centrality of
process over product, this book will clearly explain how each
individual learner might be enabled and facilitated to become the
best they can be and do the best they can do, in order to fully
realise their potential as equal and independent citizens.
Chart 100 shows the main trend of depth contours, limits of ice,
magnetic variations and keys routes as identified by Donald M.
Street Jr. In the enclosed booklet are pilot charts showing winds,
currents and wave height frequencies with accompanying notes on
favourable route timings and hurricane risk. Chart 100 is an
important companion for Atlantic yachtsmen on passage and an
excellent source of planning information.

The ninth edition of Inland Waterways of France is the ideal guide
for planning cruises in and through the most fascinating and
diverse waterway network in Europe. This edition takes a new
paperback format, split into three volumes. Author David
Edwards-May presents a detailed overview of the waterways extending
from the English Channel through Northern France, Picardy and Paris
to Central France and Burgundy. This system totals 2700 kilometres
of waterways that are as vibrant as ever, and include the new
Seine-Nord Europe Canal, now under construction, to be completed by
2028. Recreational use is growing alongside the commercial traffic
on the busier waterways, while Champagne, Burgundy and Central
France have become cruising destinations in their own right. This
first volume of the new edition sets out the current state of the
network in 200 pages in full colour, with detailed maps of
junctions and other key sites on the network, overview maps for
each waterway, and route descriptions. It is a unique blend of
practical information, maps, background historical notes and colour
photographs.
The second edition of this well-received title from the Royal
Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation covers the entire Mediterranean
mainland coast of Spain from Gibraltar to the French border. This
is the only detailed pilot for the Spanish Mediterranean coast
running up from Gibraltar to the border with France. It covers a
varied cruising area that includes the mountain-backed Costas del
and Sol and Blanca, the expansive lagoon of the Mar Menor, the
low-lying Ebro delta and the rugged Costa Brava. In between are
several great cities including Malaga, Valencia, Tarragona and
Barcelona, the Catalan capital. The volume opens with Gibraltar and
La Linea. With Imray charts for the same coast, Mediterranean Spain
provides all the data necessary for anyone based in Spain,
transiting to and from areas further East or the Balearics, or just
exploring this rich and varied coast and its hinterland. The
coverage has been revised with the text updated, new plans added
and other plan updates based on the latest information. This
edition has been enhanced by the addition of over 100 aerial
photographs showing coastline and harbour approaches.
It includes coverage of the Lofoten and Vesterålen islands, the
Arctic archipelago of Svalbard and the remote volcanic island of
Jan Mayen. Author Judy Lomax continues to sail this beguiling
coastline of majestic fjords and multiple islands and uses her
extensive network of contacts, built up over more than 30 years, to
help monitor changes in the region. This fourth edition
incorporates numerous updates to her previous work and expands on
the detail for some areas such as the Oslo Fjord and the Telemark
Canal. There is a wealth of new photographs and revised Imray plans
throughout. Whether you are on a private vessel or one of the many
ships cruising this stunningly beautiful region, Norway is a
trusted and proven companion. "Any yachtsman even contemplating a
visit to this loveliest of cruising areas could be considered
negligent if he did not buy this book". - RHR, Cruising "...The
author finds it difficult to avoid superlatives when talking about
Norwegian scenery. I find it equally difficult to avoid
superlatives when talking about this book. I am impressed. Also
most Norwegians may learn a lot of facts from this excellent book.
This will remain a classic, and will come in new editions in the
foreseeable future..." Customer feedback “For anyone sailing in
Norwegian waters this book is an absolute must. It is the perfect
example of a truly excellent pilot from which practically nothing
can be found missing.” Christine Holroyd, Cruising Association
magazine.
Under his authorship, this edition has been restructured to reflect
the changing nature of passages across the North Sea. As well as a
consideration of the various Traffic Separation Schemes, routes
take into account the many new offshore windfarms and oil and gas
extraction platforms. As its name suggests, the emphasis of this
pilot is on the passage routes, whether taking a more direct line
between the UK and the Continent or incorporating hops along the
East Coast and the adjacent coasts of France, Belgium and Holland.
Pilotage is included for a selection of key ports. Updated plans
and numerous new photographs help to illustrate the key features to
help guide you across this challenging yet rewarding stretch of
water.
This 8th edition has been fully revised to include new information
on marinas, visitor moorings and anchorages, with all the attendant
facilities available to cruising sailors. There is also plenty to
give historical context and to whet the appetite for visits and
exploration ashore. Plans have been updated throughout. Numerous
photographs help to orientate, inform and inspire, including a new
set of images for the Italian coast and Venice lagoon. For
occasional charterers or long-term cruisers alike, Trevor and Dinah
Thompson's thorough and comprehensive work should be the first
choice of any cruising sailor wanting to make the most of this rich
and diverse coastline. Adriatic Pilot is complemented by Imray's
series of charts for the Dalmatian coast.
The River Thames Book, now in its seventh edition, is the
best-selling guide to the non-tidal Thames from Teddington to its
source in Gloucestershire. This complete guide covers the Barrier
to Cricklade with the River Wey, Basingstoke Canal and the Kennet
& Avon Canal to Great Bedwyn. Chris Cove-Smith's updated text
describes the navigation with support of clear and detailed
mapping. The River Thames Book also lists in exhaustive detail the
facilities to be found along each section of the navigation.
But its waters are also fascinating, interesting and have a wide
selection of destinations to enjoy. This book describes 60 safe,
viable and feasible routes between the Kent, Essex and Suffolk
rivers for safe passage and wholly new time-planning tables which
are now simplified with significantly additional and readily
available information. The third edition retains all the popular
features describing and illustrating each sector of each route,
with waypoints and 'rolling road' diagrams, providing information
and advice about potential or permanent hazards, the implications
for the tide and guidance about shipping routes and anchorages. New
simplified passage planning tables It includes new and unique
passage planning tables which are simple, accurate and quick to
use. Readers can select the most appropriate start time and will
instantly see predicted arrival time so as to have sufficient time
to continue up river to an ultimate destination. Options are
offered for every 30 minutes of the day, whatever the day. The
tables not only provide the best predicted start time - for the
quickest passage duration - for each route at 4, 5, 6 or 7 knots
boat speed, but display alternative passage durations, whatever the
tide. Tables provide easier access and a much broader basis of
information than in earlier editions, presented alongside more
detailed chartlets and a new portrait format book. Sailors benefit
from swatchways in the Estuary which shorten time and distance for
many passages. However, as they're liable to move or change as
sands shift, the author endeavours to survey several critical
swatchways, monitors and provides illustrated Notices to Mariners
weekly and receives reports from readers. Any significant changes
or downloads are reported by updates on the website or by email to
readers on the 'Readers' Update' list.

First published in the 1950s under the editorship of EE Benest and
later Konrad Nussbaum, the Imray map of the French inland waterway
system has always been regarded as the essential reference for
planning a visit to France by boat. It is now superseded by this
completely recompiled and redrawn edition by David Edwards-May, the
leading authority on World canals and waterways. The new
cartography includes improved detail and presents essential
information concerning distances and dimensions with a greater
clarity than on previous editions. The map continues to cover the
Low Countries and the western part of Germany and now also includes
large scale insets of the Paris region and northeast France. The
scale remains at 1:1 500 000
The ninth edition of Inland Waterways of France is the ideal guide
for planning cruises in and through the most fascinating and
diverse waterway network in Europe. This edition takes a new
paperback format, split into three volumes. David Edwards-May has
investigated the many developments that have taken place during the
last 10 years and presents a detailed description of the
extraordinarily diverse system of navigable rivers and canals in
France. With the restoration of historic navigations, the system
now totals 9000 kilometres, and has become a favourite destination
for tens of thousands of boaters from Europe and the rest of the
world. This volume will serve to plan ongoing or future cruises
through the 2500 kilometres of waterways from the northeast - the
cross-border rivers Meuse, Moselle, Sarre and Rhine - to the
Mediterranean. On the busier waterways recreational use is growing
alongside the commercial traffic, but there are many places where
boats can moor safely. Waterways are an important part of the
appeal of France as a tourist destination. This new edition sets
out the current state of the network in 126 pages in full colour,
with detailed maps of 40 key sites, towns and junctions, and
overview maps for each waterway. It is a unique blend of practical
information, descriptions of places, maps, background historical
notes and colour photographs.
Fully updated, and with new sections on behaviourism, attachment
disorders, neuro-scientific developments and working with
dis-engaged learners, this second edition of Turning the Tables
contains real-life case studies, strategies for identification and
handy hints and tips throughout. It is the authoritative guide to
tackling challenging behaviour and working effectively with
children, young people and adults with severe learning difficulties
(SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and those
on the autistic spectrum with a dual ASD and learning difficulties
diagnosis. With a unique approach, the author stresses the need to
diagnose not only the correct difficulty but the degree of learning
difficulty for a lasting resolution, as well as tackling common
behavioural problems such as attention needing and task avoidance.
Chapters are split into three specific areas, SLD, PMLD and
ASD/SLD, covering: the 'Magnificent Seven' fundamental principles
of challenging behaviour strategies for correct identification of
the main area of learning difficulty improving teaching methods and
strategies to resolve challenging behaviour, including handy hints
and tips when things don't go to plan extensive use of real case
studies to illustrate strategies for resolution guidance on writing
your own Behaviour Support Plan. This is a practical and
authoritative guide to dealing with the myriad of challenging
behaviours that constantly puzzle practitioners. It is an essential
read for all professionals, parents and carers working with
children, young people and adults with SLD, SLD/ASD and PMLD.
Inclusion is Dead is a provocative polemic against the widely held
notion that inclusion for all children and young people with SEN is
both possible and desirable. For those with severe learning
difficulties (SLD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties
(PMLD), the authors argue, it is neither. Imray and Colley assert
that the dominance of inclusion has meant that there has been no
serious attempt to look at the educational difficulties faced by
learners with PMLD and SLD. As a vision of egalitarianism and
equality for all, they say, inclusion is dead. The authors
controversially believe that unless education changes, it will
remain as a disabling institution that does the exact opposite of
its intention. The book presents the argument that theorists of
inclusion have failed to provide practical solutions on how
inclusion can be achieved when SLD and PMLD learners are involved,
as well as discussing the drawbacks of the 'inclusion for all
argument'. With up-to-date references throughout, Inclusion is Dead
will be an insightful read for teachers and SENCO trainers, as well
as postgraduates and undergraduates studying courses on politics,
philosophy and society.
